May 20, 1961 – November 27, 2022
On Sunday, November 27, 2022, Abraham Gonzalez, Jr., beloved son, brother, uncle, and cousin passed away at the age of 61. He was born on May 20, 1961, in Avenal, California, to the late Abraham Gonzalez, Sr, and Estela Gonzalez.
He lived his early childhood in Porterville, California. In 1973, his family migrated to Skagit County to get away from the growing violence in the area. He graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 1980, received his Associate degree at Skagit Valley College, and his master's degree at Washington State University. He was employed from 1984 with the Social Security Administration (SSA) holding positions as Public Relations Specialist and Claims Specialist. He retired from SSA on May 31, 2022.
He enjoyed coin collecting, collecting antiques, exploring different ethnic foods, and helping people out. He was president of VIVA Hispanic Foundation NW in Seattle, board member of the Housing Authority of Skagit County, member of the Migrant Student Leadership Program, and numerous other county organizations. He was an usher at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and active member in church activities. His caringness and good heart reached out and touched so many lives. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by this father Abraham Gonzalez, Sr., and cousin Mario Alberto Gonzalez, who was like a brother to him. He is survived by his mother Estela Gonzalez, sister Rosa Maria, her husband Benito de Leon Ibarra, and son Giovanni; sister Cynthia Gonzalez and her daughter Jazmine Martinez, brother Ricardo Gonzalez, his daughter Ashley and son Ryan. Nieces and nephews Cassandra Redden, Angelica Cothron, Jaime Gonzalez, Mario Gonzalez, Luis Alberto Gonzalez, and cousin Angelica Gonzalez and their families.
Viewing will be on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, between 10:00 am and 4:30 pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Mount Vernon. A farewell mass will be on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 224-498 N. 15th St., Mount Vernon, WA at 12:15. There will be a remembrance of life reception on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at St. Charles Catholic Church from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
