Obituary

Albert Hietbrink passed away peacefully on April 14th, 2014. During that day a great many gathered in his hospital room to support him in his final hours and say goodbye. He was born to Albert and Bertha Hietbrink on July 16th, 1947. His parents owned a farm north of Bellingham in the Custer area, and an uncle also lived on the farm. There are no known surviving relatives. Albert had significant challenges in his life and was known primarily by those who helped him overcome those. He came to live at Soundview Supported Living in 2003, where he lived for the rest of his life. Albert enjoyed hiking the trails in the area, especially around Deception Pass. He had a large collection of wooden models he had assembled and painted, and also enjoyed painting pictures. He was able to experience many activities along with his housemates and staff, and frequently dined out or went on picnics in the parks. Albert had much to teach those people fortunate enough to support him. He brought people closer together and challenged them in many ways. Those who came to know him formed deep attachments to him and now keenly feel his absence. Albert was unique and extraordinary, and can never be replaced. A private celebration of his life will be held on May 12th. If you would like an invitation please contact Rachel or Bob at 360-424-0397. Soundview Association is a non-profit organization that supports adults in Mount Vernon and Stanwood. You can learn more about what they do and how you can help by visiting www.soundviewassn.org
