Obituary

Authentic, generous, funny guy, thoughtful, best American father, a gentle soul are just a few adjectives that have been used to describe Albert (Al) Renault Peraino, born at French Hospital in New York, NY on July 19,1940. He passed away at his home on May 16, 2018 after a brief battle with Dementia.

Al grew up in Queens, NY and received his Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University in 1966. His career as a chemical engineer brought him and his family around the U.S. and Canada. His last move was to Mount Vernon, WA where he worked at the Shell Refinery for Bantrel. After retiring from Bantrel he found a passion for working with special education students and became a para-educator with the Mount Vernon School District for 13 years, retiring in 2013 after which he substituted, including at Skagit Discovery.

He married Judy Bolin on September 26, 1970 in Mountain View, CA. They enjoyed road trips, camping, and hiking, visiting Judy's family farm in Minnesota, trips to the east coast to his family, and eventually included their three children and two grandchildren in these memories. As a Home Stay Parent he was "Uncle Al" for several international students from Skagit Valley College and was able visit 7 of them in their home countries.

Al enjoyed being active in his community and had compassion for those suffering from mental illness. While in Mount Vernon, he became active with National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Habitat for Humanity, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph and mother Rose. He is survived by his wife Judy, children Kristin Comunale (Dan), Rachel Peraino, and Marc Peraino. Grandchildren Sofia and Michael Comunale, brother Dr. Robert Peraino (Lois) and sister Maria Blazek (Paul). And nieces and nephews.

His family would like to thank Eden Home Health who helped him during the last month and Hospice of the Northwest who were so helpful and supportive the last 5 days.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 2 nd at 1pm, Trinity Lutheran Church 301 S. 18 th Street, Mount Vernon. He requested memorials go to Trinity Lutheran Church or NAMI Skagit, P.O. Box 546 Mount Vernon WA 98273. A memorial and burial service will be held on June 23 rd at 2 pm at Fahlun Lutheran Church in Nelson MN.
