Alene L. (Schroeder, Nies) Jurgens of Mount Vernon, WA passed away June 17, 2018. Alene was born on December 31, 1920, daughter of Anna and Henry Schroeder of Plymouth, NE. She is survived by her husband, Ivan Jurgens; daughter, Linda McCallister of Bakersfield, CA; son, John Nies of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Kristina Nies, Jason Gratt, Adam Gratt, and Andrew Gratt; and six great grandchildren.
From a one-room country school teacher Mrs. Jurgens became an accountant for some large corporations in Reno, NV and Bakersfield, CA. She was also a data entry specialist at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, WA. Some of her favorite activities included gardening, cooking, singing, and dancing. Alene and Ivan enjoyed their retirement years in Anacortes and Mount Vernon, WA.
