IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice Vera
Carpenter
May 31, 1922 – January 11, 2017
Alice Vera Carpenter, age 94, passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family on January 11, 2017 at the home of her daughter.
Alice was born May 31, 1922 in Staples MN to Charles and Grace Irene (Sweet) Clossen at her maternal grandparents' home. Alice was the oldest of 3 siblings; Clifford, Richard and Renee.
After graduating from Staples High School in 1941 she traveled with her younger brother Clifford to the Pacific Northwest following family to Mount Vernon. She worked for the Carnation Company in Mt. Vernon soon after arriving. She married Archie Carpenter in 1943 and lived in Mt Vernon where they raised their two children.
Alice was a homemaker and proud that she participated in the building of five different family homes. Alice held an active role in the families Ceramic Tile and Floor Covering business prior to Archie's passing, keeping the books and getting materials from Seattle. She enjoyed gardening, still mowing her own lawn in her 90's. She had traveled to Australia, Europe, Caribbean, Alaska and many of the other 50 states. She also was still clam digging and fishing, as well as camping with the grandchildren at the beach lot.
Alice was a 50 year plus life time member of the Order of Eastern Star having served as Worthy Matron 8 times. She also had filled most of the 18 chairs at her lodge and other lodges she visited. This order held a very special place in her heart. She also was a member of Ladies of the Nile, Honey Bears, Golden Girls, American Legion, F.O.E. and a 50 year member of Fredonia Grange.
Alice was a member of the Avon Allen Methodist church before it closed and had been in the choir for many years.
Alice is survived by her son Brent (Sherry) of Kelso, daughter Linda (Tim) McMaster of Mt. Vernon; 5 grand children, 10 great grand children and 3 great great grand children; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and husband Archie.
Alice had touched the hearts of everyone she was around and enriched their lives and will be deeply missed by all.
The family would like to thank Dr Dale Abbot, Dr Eric Stark for the special care provided and Hospice for their support.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her name to Hospice of the Northwest, 227 Freeway Drive Suite A, Mt Vernon, WA 98273.
A celebration of life will be held February 3, 2017 at 1:00pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Mt. Vernon. A reception will follow in the Hawthorne Funeral Home reception room.Visits: 0
