Alice Marie Kammenga was born April 17, 1930  in Oak Harbor, WA to Herbert and Marie James, and passed away November 2, 2022 at Creekside Memory Care.

Alice attended school in Oak Harbor and graduated in 1948.

She married her childhood sweetheart George Kammenga on September 10, 1950. They moved to Mount Vernon in 1952 to a small farm.

Alice worked as a switchboard operator in Oak Harbor from 1949-1952.

Alice went with George hunting and fishing and spending time with family. They enjoyed camping in their motor home traveling to other states and locally.

Alice was a good cook, especially her cookie sheet apple pie, divinity fudge and butter crunch toffee.

George and Alice had a large garden which Alice canned and preserved much of the food, and she also enjoyed teaching family how to can and preserve foods.

Survivors are sister in law Betty Gregory, Daughter Diane and Chuck Boettcher. Sons John and Kathy Kammenga. Richard and Dawn Kammenga. All from Mount Vernon.  5 granddaughters. Tina and Joseph Gutierrez, Chelsie and Michael Hunnicutt, Amy Kammenga, Felisa Helgeson, and Andi Zamora. 9 great grandchildren. Sam and Emma Jo Helgeson, Kaylyn, Emily and Adrian Gutierrez, Ryan and Kody Farrington, Josiah and Malachi Zamora.

She is preceded in death by husband George Kammenga, parents, and 3 sisters.
