Alicejo DeMeyer, 87, of LaConner, passed away February 3, 2009 at Josephine Sunset Home following a brief illness of 5 weeks. She was born November 1, 1921 in Bellingham, the daughter of Ernie and Effie Dean. In 1928 the family moved to a farm on the Calhoun road west of Mount Vernon. Alicejo attended the Harmony Grade School and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1939. December 3, 1939 Alicejo and Harold DeMeyer were married in Mount Vernon. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Alter Society, Patricia Hulbert Orthopedic Guild, Daughters of the American Revolution, Washington Territorial Daughters, Swinomish Yacht Club, LaConner Pioneer Museum Volunteers, Skagit County Historical Museum, Sacred Heart Catholic Church of LaConner, Billikin Club of LaConner. Alicejo loved to travel. When her family was young they camped throughout the western states and Yellowstone Park. Other travels included cruises through the Panama Canel and trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic Sea. She also traveled to most of the 50 states to visit family and friends with her husband, Harold. She and Harold enjoyed boating throughout the San Juan Islands for over 40 years. Alicejo and Harold moved to LaConner in 1970 and built the first home on Channel Lane, overlooking the Swinomish Channel. Alicejo was a wonderful stay at home mom and loved to bake for her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Emerson) Koetje of Darrington; 3 sons, David (Andrea) DeMeyer of Georgia, Jeff and Jim DeMeyer of Seattle; 6 grandsons, Matt (Susan), Greg (Tracy) Koetje, Eric Bell, Daven (Amy) DeMeyer, Padraic (Laura) Kelly and Christopher DeMeyer; granddaughter, Michelle Bell; great-grandchildren, John, Laura, Kara and Kyle Koetje, Colin, Bridget and Crosby Kelly. She was preceded in death by her parents ; a brother, Robert (Bob) Dean Sr.; a grandson, Edward Kelly. Memorials are suggested to Skagit County Historical Museum, Patricia Hulbert Orthopedic Guild or Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in LaConner a reception will follow in the parish hall. A graveside committal service will be at 2:00 PM at Hawthorne Memorial Park in Mount Vernon.
