Obituary

Ann Voorde Poorte passed away peacefully at her home in Mount Vernon on April 13, 2010 at the age of 80, with her daughters by her side. She was born on March 30, 1930, on a farm in the Netherlands. She was the youngest of five children born to Cornelis and Teuntje Timmermans. On March 25, 1952, Ann married Art Voorde Poorte. In 1956, it was off to America! Art, Ann, and their two eldest daughters, immigrated to America to start an exciting new life. They settled in Whatcom County for a year and then moved to Skagit County where they enjoyed operating a dairy and crop farm. Ann lived a full life! She loved to have fun and was always up for anything! She enjoyed swimming, golfing, exercise classes, gardening, music, and especially playing games with her family and many friends. Mostly, Ann loved spending time with her family, grandkids, and great grandkids. She was an inspiration to her family and continued to treasure each moment of life even as her health declined. Ann was a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Mount Vernon. She generously gave of her time and resources in support of her community. Ann is survived by her children and their spouses, Tena (Fred) Putnam, Wilma (Dick) Millenaar, Peter (Estee) Voorde Poorte, Ardell (Jeff) Brandenburg, and Tami (Shaun) Bridge. She cherished her eight grandchildren, Jeni (Brian) Farcy, Amy Smith, Crystal (Matt) Lawson, Janel (Ian) Kidd, David (Chealsie) Millenaar, Jake Voorde Poorte, Alex and Lilly Bridge; and great-grandchildren, Jay, Zoe, Jordyn, Mya, Joni, Bradley, Brianna, and Ethan. She is survived by one sister, Woutje Wieringa, in the Netherlands. Ann also leaves behind many extended family members and dear, lifelong friends. Her husband, Art, preceded her in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, and two brothers. We would like to thank Skagit Hospice for providing our mom with special love and care during her illness and for their kindness and support to our family.
