Obituary

After struggling with a chronic illness for the past two years, Antonie "Toni" Sutton passed peacefully on January 13. She had recently celebrated her 82nd birthday.

Toni was born in Staten Island, New York, to parents Ethel and Ferdinand Hayn. She loved playing with friends in the neighborhood, especially her life-long friend Jeri. She attended an all-girls Catholic high school, Saint Joseph Hill Academy, and then attended the University of Buffalo where she pledged Sigma Kappa and was on the cheerleading team. Toni treasured her time in college and the friends she made there. She graduated with a degree in teaching and taught for several years. Later she would change careers, taking classes and becoming a computer programmer; one of the early females in that field.

She had two children, Christopher and Jennifer (Chris and Jenny), and was married to the love of her life, Harry, for over 45 years.

Toni spent 30 years working as a computer programmer for the State of Utah. After Toni retired, Toni and Harry ventured back east and lived outside of Richmond, Virginia for 16 years where they made new friends and reconnected with old ones. In 2017, Toni and Harry moved to Mount Vernon, Washington to be closer to their grandchildren.

Toni enjoyed dancing (she could do a mean shag!), books, animals, great music (Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, along with rock-n-roll oldies), fashion, and the beach. She cherished her close friends and believed in God, praying each night. Most of all, she loved watching her grandchildren grow up and enjoyed every minute she had with her husband (her love) and her children.

Toni is survived by her husband Harry and her children Jenny Veltri (spouse Brock, grandchildren Michael and Caroline) and Chris Serfustini (spouse Mecca, granddaughter Maggie). In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of the Northwest in Mount Vernon, WA or your local animal shelter in Toni's name.
