Obituary

Barbara Mae Johnson Barbara was born January 17, 1947 in Mount Vernon to Melvin and Shirley Karlson; she passed away August 12, 2010 at her home in La Conner. Barbara attended Mount Vernon grade and middle schools and graduated from Edmonds High School. She attended Skagit Valley College and Western Washington University. In 1967 she married Steve Johnson and settled in Mount Vernon. In 1970 she gave birth to her only son, Christopher. In 1976 she worked at Concrete Nor'west as an accounts manager and even later on as a concrete truck dispatcher. Barbara was known to jump in monster sized front loaders and fill her trucks when needed. She quit in 1992 and went on the trip of a lifetime to Europe. Traveling through many countries on a 6 week adventure. Upon returning she moved to Skagit Golf & Country Club where she enjoyed golfing and entertaining family and friends. She worked at many small businesses during this time helping them with their books. While looking for the perfect-fit job which led her to Western Facilities Supply in Everett where she was the office manager. In 2003 she moved to La Conner to a beautiful apartment overlooking the Channel. She was so very happy the last few years sitting on her deck watching the boats go by and visiting with friends and family. In the early years she played the Organ for the First Lutheran Church, was a member of the Conway School Board in the early 80's and helped with the Tulip Festival in the early 90's. She is survived by her son: Chris Johnson and Lindy of Mount Vernon; parents: Melvin Sr. and Shirley Karlson of Mount Vernon; brother: Melvin Jr. Karlson and Terry of Virginia; grandchildren: which always brought a huge smile to her face Trevor, Lucas, and Kira Johnson; nephews: Andrew and Walter Karlson of Virginia; many cousins and friends. Also a special friend who helped her so much near the end Debra Ellsworth's family especially her son Anthony. A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, August 19, 2010, 11:00 am at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Mount Vernon, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception, 12:00 noon, at the Hawthorne Reception Room.
