Obituary

Barbara Jean McCLean (Kager) born January 27, 1940 to George H. McCLean and Beatrice (Bea) Tyler in Redmond, OR. During the 2 nd WW George was in the Military Service when they got a divorce in 1943. Bea married Wade Gilkey in Prineville, OR in 1944 and moved to Washington. They lived in Anacortes and Barbara went to school there for 1 year. The family then moved to Guemes Island where Barbara attended the school there completing 4 th grade. She then went to the Nelson School for 5 th grade, later to Whitney School for the 6 th grade. She attended the Columbian Jr. High and graduated from the Senior High School in 1958. After graduation she attended Western Washington College in Bellingham and Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, where she graduated from the nurses training program as an LPN. Barbara worked at several nursing homes finally working at Mira Vista for many years. When she graduated from college she met Robert Kager her future husband. They married in 1959 and settled in Mount Vernon, WA.   She managed to raise two wonderful children, Corinna (Deceased) and Robert who was adopted. He was loved and raised as our own with much love. The couple had 59 years of happiness living on a small farm south of Mount Vernon. Barbara will be greatly missed by her many friends and neighbors. Barbara had one half-sister, Pamela Gilkey-Saunders, two half-brothers Lee Gilkey and Wade Gilkey Jr. By her step-father and mother.   Barbara has 3 half-sisters, 3 half -brothers, many cousins, aunts, uncles some in California and Oregon. Barbara loved to travel the coast route to Oregon and California and also traveling to Montana and Idaho to visit her children. She also loved to go hunting and fishing in Eastern, WA with her husband, and also saltwater fishing with him as well. Barbara was a 34-year cancer survivor.   A graveside service will be held Friday, November 9 th , 2018, 1:00pm at Hawthorne Memorial Park, Mount Vernon, WA.
