Obituary

Benita (Nita) June LeGro Marsula passed away peacefully on June 16, 2022. Nita was born in Ponca Nebraska on June 24, 1924 to Robert and Edythe Lyle Sheffel LeGro. At age two she moved to Spokane, WA with her mother, two brothers and sister. After her mother's death when she was three, the family lived with their Aunt Anna Sheffel, a school teacher, and Uncle Peter Sheffel.

After graduating from Lewis and Clark High School in 1942, she moved to Seattle to be with her sister. She worked at Boeing on B-17's for two years before returning to school. Because this was during World War II, she was able to join the U.S. Cadet and Nurse Corps which aided her attending the University of Washington and Harborview Hospital, graduating in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

In March 1948, she married Reino (Ray) Marsula at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. She met Ray while in training at Northern State Hospital. They lived in Mount Vernon for 66 years until Ray's death in 2014.

Nita and Ray had two sons, Richard (1950) and Roger (1953). Nita continued her nursing career at Rowley Hospital, Skagit Valley Hospital, and Skagit Blood Bank and Laboratories. She stayed home to be a full time mom during the boys' early years. When Ray became owner of the Mount Vernon Napa store, naming it "Ray's Auto Parts," she took over the bookkeeping.

The family had many great camping trips starting with a tent and sleeping bags, and progressing to trailers and a motorhome. Ray and Nita loved to travel by RV, car, planes, tours, and cruises. They covered most of the states and much of lower Canada.

Other activities Nita enjoyed were crafts, oil painting, bowling, golfing, and playing bridge. She belonged to two bowling leagues, two golfing leagues, and four bridge groups. She was a longtime member of a Children's Hospital Auxiliary Guild and the Skagit Valley Hospital Auxiliary. In earlier years she was active in the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon.

She loved her family and friends and tried each day to count her blessings, trust in the lord, and to keep smiling.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents, her aunt and uncle, two brothers (Wallace Keith LeGro and Damon "Denny" LeGro), and a sister (Phyllis St. John).

She is survived by two sons Richard Marsula and Roger Marsula, two granddaughters Jeannie Revoir (Kevin) and Deannie Martin (Joe), two great-granddaughters Daileen Nelson and Danae Thompson (Brett), two great-grandsons Laird and Landis Revoir, a great-great-granddaughter Alayna Thompson, and great-great-grandson Ryker Thompson, and nephew Denny LeGro; all of Mount Vernon, WA, sister-in-law Helen Brewer and family of CA, niece Joy Alba (John) and nephew Dennis St. John of Arizona, and niece Gaynel Reykdal of Everett, WA. A date for a celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
