Obituary

Beth Sizelove passed away peacefully at her home on October 2, 2021, with her loved ones by her side.

Born on June 19, 1930, in Bellingham to Cecil and Grace Folsom, she joined her sister, Shirley. Beth lived all her growing years in Bellingham and spent summers at their vacation home on Chuckanut Drive. It was nothing for her to go swimming in the icy waters in the spring and entertain all her friends with weekly stays. The family enjoyed trips to California where they had relatives, to Yellowstone Park, and to Alaska. She enjoyed drama and participated in plays, both in high school, local theater, and college. She attended Western Washington University and graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Speech Education. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and maintained lifelong friendships with them. She obtained employment as an English teacher at Mount Vernon High School. She married her longtime time sweetheart Fred Sizelove, after he returned from service in the Air force, and put him through his remaining college for two years. Beth and Fred then taught 1 year together before she retired to have her family of three daughters: Suzanne, Michelle, and Lisa. During those years, she was active in Camp Fire Girls, PTA, home room mother and as a Sunday school teacher. Later she returned to college, got her medical secretarial degree, and obtained employment with a local urologist, and then for an OB/GYN clinic where she was employed for 25 years.

She loved the many happy days fishing for salmon and halibut in the San Juans, Canada, and Alaska, as well as hooking some trout in many lakes with family and friends. Beth also loved camping in their motor home around Washington, Oregon, and California. She enjoyed cross country skiing in Canada, Eastern Washington, and Snoqualmie. She and her husband traveled to Australia, New Zealand, The Grand Canyon, the Copper Canyon and Africa. They had fun family trips to Hawaii and Cancun. They took cruises to the Caribbean, The Mexican Riviera, The Panama Canal and The Mediterranean (where they had a chance to visit Israel and walk in Jesus's steps). At age 81, she took a trip to the Amazon and Galapagos Islands with her daughter Michelle, where she climbed 137 steps to the suspension bridge. She and Michelle also enjoyed a River Cruise on The Danube, visiting Germany, Austria, and Hungary.

Beth enjoyed her couple's bridge club for many, many years. She was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church where she participated in many events and outreaches, Bible studies and home groups. After it closed, she attended Christ the King Church. She was active in exercise programs such as Curves and the YMCA. She was interested in helping people and being a good friend. The happiest times of her life were the close family times with her children and grandchildren and her three great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, parents Cecil and Grace Folsom, sister Shirley Nelson and brother-in-law Roy Battle Nelson. She is survived by her children Suzanne and Randy Boroughs of Woodinville, Michelle and Curt Cunningham of Edmonds, Lisa, and Eric Kragerud of Bothell, and six grandchildren: Mike and wife, Melissa, Nate, and Brieann Boroughs, Brittany and husband Evan, Jake and wife Katherine, Scott Kragerud and great granddaughters Evie, Lola, and Lennon.

A celebration of life will be held on November 20, 2021, at 11:00am at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Luncheon to follow.
