Obituary

Betty Lenoria Arendse (Rogge) was taken to be with her Lord on December 30, 2009 with her family by her side at her home in Mount Vernon, WA after a long battle with ALS. She was born to Merrell & Florence Cain in Ryan, Oklahoma on August 29, 1932. She was the oldest of four children and was proud to have shared a birthplace with the actor Chuck Norris, whom she loved to watch on TV. In 1952, she married Milton Rogge (who preceded her in death in 1998) and they had three children, David, Kevin & Theodore (Ted). In 1977, she married Kryn Arendse. She was a serious collector of salt & pepper shakers who amassed over 3,000 sets in her home. She also collected spoons. Both collections included items from all over the world that friends and family sent to her. She loved flowers, ice cream, See's peanut brittle & talking on the phone. Over the last year of her life, ALS robbed her of the ability to eat & talk but she never lost her sense of humor of her independent spirit, being determined to live her life on her terms. She was able to enjoy one last Christmas with all her children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Kryn, her father Merrell, mother Florence, two sons Paul & Gary, a grandson David, a sister Mary, and a sister-in-law Sandy. She is survived by her brother Bob (& Margaret) Cain of Worksop, England, brother Jim France of Pittsburgh; sons David (& Michelle) Rogge of Chelan, WA, Kevin (& Margaret) Rogge of Mount Vernon, WA, and Ted Rogge of Tacoma, WA; step- children Vernon Arendse, Florence (& Pat) Howard, Gerald Arendse, Ronny Arendse, Randy (& Linn) Arendse and Shelly (& Rick) Palmer; 25 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial service will be held at Salem Lutheran Church, Mount Vernon, WA on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 11:00am with reception to follow. Graveside Service and Burial will follow reception at Hawthorne Memorial Park, Mount Vernon. Donation may be made in her name to Hospice of Skagit County
