Obituary

Betty Helen Collins Our beloved Mother and Grandmother Betty Helen Collins (Hurlburt) Passed away peacefully in Mount Vernon, Washington on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the age of 86. She was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on October 2, 1928 to Hugh and Floy Hurlburt and grew up in Whitefish and Kalispell, Montana. Betty married her husband Eugene Collins on December 25, 1946 in Anaconda, Montana and started raising their family in Sunburst, Montana before moving to Burlington, Washington in 1958. Betty obtained her GED from Skagit Valley College and attended Mount Vernon Beauty School to become a self-employed hair dresser and stay at home mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family while taking camping and fishing trips to British Columbia and Sekiu, visits to Las Vegas to visit her brother Bill, and trips to Montana to visit family. Betty loved spending time and volunteering at the Elks Club in Mount Vernon, knitting, arts and crafts, crocheting, putting together puzzles, playing bingo, and watching her grandchildren in whatever sports and activities they were involved with. Later in life, she enjoyed playing cards and Dominoes with the ladies at the Burlington Senior Center, and spending time at family gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her favorite day of the week was Friday because of her trips to the Hair Quarters beauty shop to socialize with the ladies while her daughter-in-law Pam Collins did her hair for the past 40 years, and because of her weekly lunch date with her son Danny. She loved watching Gonzaga Bulldog basketball, Seattle Mariners Baseball, and rarely missed a game. Her favorite meal was dessert, and her sweet tooth never stopped! Betty is preceded in death by her parents Hugh Hurlburt and Floy Williams Hurlburt Baze; her loving husband of 52 years Eugene Allen Collins; her brothers Vernon, Toby, and William Hurlburt; as well as her Mother-in-Law Pearl Collins-Smith and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins. She is survived by her sons Allen L. (Pam) Collins and Danny R. Collins; Her grandsons Gregg (Kati) Collins, Kevin (Niki) Collins, Brent (Mandy) Collins, Scott (Beth) Collins, and her only granddaughter Krissa (Josh) Maxwell; her great grandchildren Kain Copps-Collins, Owen, Kaydn, Olivia, Keegan, and Brady Collins; her brother-in-law Leroy (Hap) Collins; sister-in-law's Arleta Pilcher and Joan Hurlburt; as well as many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. A special thank you to Dr. Eric R. Stark and the administration, staff, and nurses at Ashley Gardens of Mount Vernon for the amazing and loving care they provided our Mother and Grandma in the final years of her life.
