Obituary

Beulah Elaine Hockman Cassel, age 92, a resident of Burlington , passed peacefully at home in the early afternoon of Saturday, June 25, 2016.

Beulah was born on September 6, 1923 in Herndon , Kansas . Her parents were John and Gertrude Wudtke. She grew up with four younger sisters (Betty, Norma, Ella, and Delores) and a younger brother (Don). She married Alan "Mick" Hockman September 21 st , 1941 at Oberlin , Kansas . They settled in Mount Vernon , WA following his service in WWII. After 55 years of marriage, Mick passed in 1996. Later Beulah married Jack Cassel, who passed in 2000.

Although Beulah worked at a variety of jobs including waitress, office worker, and dental assistant; the majority of her career was at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in a civilian job. It was her task to order parts for the Navy's EA-6B Prowlers. She started there in 1959 and retired in January of 1986.

Over the years, Beulah was active at the YMCA, the Riverside Health Club, and the local Election Board. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed participating in many of the church's activities including weekly Bible studies and serving on the Deaconess Board. She also enjoyed working with the small children and visiting shut-ins. She was especially known for her kind heart and genuine love for others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.

Beulah is survived by her sister Norma Bacetich, her brother Donald Wudtke (Sharon), her two sons Roger Hockman (Betty) and Pat Hockman (Mary), her daughter Penny Sundblad (Eric), seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gertrude Wudtke, her first husband, Alan "Mick" Hockman, her second husband Jack Cassel, her daughter Linda Hockman, three sisters, six brothers-in-law's, and five nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Emmanuel Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church , 1515 East College Way , Mount Vernon , WA , at 2 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2016.
