IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bonnie Rose
Mead
March 9, 1933 – April 23, 2024
Bonnie Rose (Youngs) Mead
March 9, 1933 – April 23, 2024
Bonnie Mead passed away April 23, 2024, peacefully in her home in Concrete, Washington. She was visited by many who loved her the last two days. Bonnie wanted only to be home surrounded by her kitties, doggies and those that loved her most. She loved this little family.
Bonnie was born in Oxford, New York during the depression. Her father, Ernest G Youngs, was a farmer and worked with draft horses. Mom's memories of horsedrawn sleigh rides coming home from school on the extra cold days were so fun. Big blankets or tanned hides. Not much is known yet about her mother, Hazel Kubecka. They were separated when Bonnie was very young. Bonnie missed her greatly throughout her life. After Bonnie moved in with her Aunt Charlotte {Youngs} Sharpe as a teen, she met her first love in Tyner, NY. John Brigham swept her off her feet and soon they began their life together. They had two sons, John Jr & Charles Brigham. John Jr was born September 4, 1950, Greene, NY. Unfortunately, John passed away on October 4, 1991, before a lasting connection could be made between John and Bonnie. However, seven years later, Bonnie was reunited with her son, Charlie, born September 9, 1951, through a mention in John's obituary. Charlie, his wife Chris have shared a lot love with Bonnie ever since.
Bonnie married Jack Mead on September 6, 1954. Jack, raised in Oxford, NY, was home from the Navy after a nasty accident that ended his Navy career. Together they had three daughters, Gloria E Mead born June 29, 1955, Charissa L Mead born July 11, 1957 and Pamela A Mead born October 23, 1959. Jack was a free spirit with adventure in his heart. Bonnie also had a quiet love for seeing & experiencing new adventures. Onward Westward Ho! They traveled with stays in Denver, Colorado, Los Angeles, California and Coos Bay, Oregon. Bonnie first saw the ocean in Long Beach, California. Now a new love was born. Bonnie loved the roaring and crashing of the waves at the Oregon beaches when she moved there.
Moving to Oregon was a blessing and a curse. Bonnie always missed the warmth of Southern California. Oregon granted Bonnie a chance to enhance her work status. Bonnie started working in the lab at Bay Clinic in Coos Bay, Oregon about 1973. She worked, finished school to be certified and kept her daughters moving forward. After many years, many loved patients and many close friends, chronic back pain forced her
into retirement. While she was ready to sew and garden, the task of caring for Jack became her priority. Jack Mead preceded her in death on April 21, 2008.
On Mother's Day, May 9, 2009, Bonnie sold her life in Coos Bay, Oregon to move to Birdsview, WA with her youngest daughter, Pam. Bonnie taught Pam about canning, gardening and just enjoying life. Oh and a little quilting of course. Quilting became an endless task. Along with mending clothes for great grands. With a grandson, Ryan Evans and his family (wife Carrie Evans, son Conner Evans, son Hunter Evans and
daughter Cooper Evans) living a country block down the road, Bonnie was surrounded by family. Weekly dinners, summer pool parties and fudgesicles made from scratch. Life lessons passed on.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Mead, and two dear children. John Brigham passed on October 4, 1991 and Charissa (Cheri) (Mead) Dahl passed on April 28, 2016.
She leaves behind many loved ones including her son & daughter-in-law, Charlie & Chris Brigham of Waterville New York; her daughter & son-in-law, Pam & Mike Westberg of Concrete Washington, her grandson Ryan Evans (along with Ryan's family - wife Carrie Evans, and their children who truly loved Great Grandma); her daughter & son-in-law, Gloria & John Myers in Idaho Falls Idaho, her grandson, Michael Myers; along with many friends and cousins scattered around the country. Cheri's son, Casey Hansen, has always been the twinkle in Bonnie's eye. She raised him as best she could all the way through high school. Occasionally he took solace in Grandma's house when life was too confusing.
There are many grandchildren Bonnie regretted never getting the opportunity to know. The sons and daughters of John (and Bertha) Brigham and Charlie (and Carol) Brigham were some people Bonnie wanted to know. Unfortunately, life did not allow the possibility.
Bonnie Rose (Youngs) Mead will be laid to rest in Roseburg National Cemetery, Roseburg, Oregon, with her husband, Elbert John (Jack) Mead. Arrangements are being made by Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mt Vernon, Washington cooperating with Coos Bay Chapel, Coos Bay, Oregon.
