Obituary

Carol Elaine Thompson-Davis, age 88, a resident of Mount Vernon passed away on Memorial Day. She was born in Mount Vernon on April 3, 1923 to Blake and Esther Thompson of Baker Heights. She attended local schools and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1941. From there she attended St. Lukes Hospital Nursing program, graduating as an R.N. She followed her nursing career in clinics in Seattle and later did advanced training at Chicago Lying In Hospital followed by working in Obstetrics in that area later moving to New York. She enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and became a surgical nurse during the Korean Conflict. She was stationed in Japan at that time, caring for the injured servicemen. She ended her army career as a Captain and married Dan Davis in Massachusetts. Following a brief time farming, they both attended New England Institute and became licensed Funeral Directors and Embalmers to follow a career in the Davis Family Funeral Home. After Dan's death she worked in various nursing homes in addition to the Funeral Home. While in the East she was very active in the Marlboro Chapter of Sweet Adelines where she made many lasting friends. After her retirement she returned to Washington State and became active in the Vasa Lodge and St. Luke's Nurse Alumni Association. She is survived by two brothers, Thomas W. Thompson (Ginger) of California and Dale W. Thompson (Marilyn) of Sedro-Woolley and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews and friends. A brother Blake and her parents and a baby brother Charles preceded her in death. A private family burial service will be held at the Hawthorne Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to an Open House Memorial Celebration on June 8th from 3pm to 6pm at her residence at 3100 North 30th Street in Mount Vernon. In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to The Humane Society, 18841 Kelleher Road, Burlington, WA 98233 or a charity of your choosing.
