Obituary

Carol Ann (Burke) Umporowicz formerly of Everson passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 8th after a brief battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Thomas "Skip" Umporowicz in May 2013. She is survived by her son Thomas and wife Carrie, daughter Susan and husband Scott, daughter JoAnne, five grandchildren, Anna (Jeremy), Logan, Sam, McKenna and Chloe and one great grand-daughter, Isabella. Carol was born and raised in Chicago, but she and Skip moved to Washington because when Skip was in the Navy he met lifetime friends named the Doniger's who treated him like family and told him that Western Washington was "God's Country". Carol had never left Chicago, but went with Skip and three children and found their home. Carol was a kind and generous soul, she was selfless and loyal, she loved to read, crochet and do things for others to brighten their day. She worked hard all of her life but her greatest accomplishment and joy was her family. Everything she was resonates in each of them. She was the heartbeat of our family and kept us all together, taught us to treat everybody well and without judgment and that kindness in even little ways means a lot. Carol and Skip also taught us the meaning of resilience. One of her greatest pleasures was reminiscing with family and friends. Sharing memories, good or bad were all better told again because of the humor our family and friends injected in each of these stories. Even in her hardest times and most challenging moments, Carol and Skip taught us to "find the funny" in it and make it a good story. They also taught us through the hard times to have empathy and compassion for others, which they modeled throughout their lives. She loved having fun with her sister Jeannie and brother-in-law Gordon and the foursome traveled all over, laughing all the way. She adored her older brother Johnny and they shared a special connection. She valued every bit of her life with love and humor, and took every hardship without complaint or regrets. Her last 8 years were in Burlington and she loved it there, especially her Heritage Place neighbors. Your children love you, thank you for all you sacrificed for us and and taught us and can only only hope to emulate a fraction of how well you treated every person you came in contact with. In her memory, her family asks that you do a random act of kindness for somebody or make a donation to Hospice of the Northwest at www.hospicenw.org
