Obituary

Cathryn Ann (Cathy) Hanson

Went home to heaven peacefully May 16, 2017 at her sister's home. Cathy had Down's Syndrome and blessed her family with her life. One of her favorite sayings was "Happy, Happy, Happy" and she was, sharing that happiness through laughs, a beautiful smile, and the "ok" sign with a wink to those she met.

Loved by family and friends through her long life in Mt. Vernon, she was known by many in the community. Cathy attended school in Mt. Vernon and went on to work at Chinook Enterprises for many years. Bowling, track, and dances were events she participated in through Special Olympics. She loved attending First Baptist Church with her family.   At home she enjoyed crochet, latch-hook rugs, watching Lawrence Welk reruns, and sorting through the numerous greeting cards she had received.

Born October 17, 1955 she was the third child of Bill and Dodie Hanson. Cathy looked forward to holidays and family gatherings. She lived with her parents until they passed in 2015 and then with her sister Lori Hansen, brother-in-law Larry, nephew Zach and niece Kate.   She is also survived by her brother, Roger Hanson (Sunny); brother, Randy Hanson (Joy); and her loved nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cathy was a special person, she taught us to be grateful for all we have and to have compassion for others. We would like to thank all who cared for and loved her in the community.

A family graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 at Hawthorne Memorial Park.   Donations can be made to Skagit Special Olympics (PO Box 1162 Mt. Vernon, WA 98273) or to Hospice of the Northwest.
