Obituary

Charolene M Callahan, 71, of Mount Vernon WA, went to be with her Lord, on March 29, 2009. She died peacefully with her family by her side. Charolene loved the Lord very much and her character reflected that more and more as she got older. She attended Cedarhome Baptist Church, Island Baptist Church and later Emmanuel Baptist Church She was primarily a homemaker but also worked as a nurse's aid, child-care provider and later did janitorial work with her husband, Merlin. She was born March 18, 1938 in Jefferson OR. The daughter of Howard A. and Dorothy C. Hiner Combs. She grew up and graduated from high school in Soldier Kansas, in 1956. While in high school she enjoyed playing basket ball, which she also lettered in. She was also the treasurer for her senior class. She moved to Seattle WA around 1958. She was married to Merlin Callahan from August 15, 1966 to December 15, 1990, when he passed away. They lived in Seattle until 1975 when they moved to the Stanwood/Camano Island area. Together they built a home in Camaloch. She lived on Camano Island until 2002 when she moved to Mount Vernon. She lived there until her death. Her hobbies included golfing, camping, hiking and fishing. She is survived by her son, Patrick, his wife Danette and their children, Josh, Brent and Brita, Stanwood WA; two sisters, Charolette Baker, Electra TX, Viola Sklenicka, Burlington KS; two brothers, Richard Combs, OK and Lyle Combs, Burlington KS; numerous nieces, nephews. She also leaves behind many friends. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her. Services will be held on April 4, 2009 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1515 E College Way, Mount Vernon WA at 2pm in the fireside room.
