Clifford Dale Van Matre

Clifford Dale Van Matre, age 91, passed away on April 22, 2026, at home. Cliff was born January 1, 1935, in Yuma, Colorado, to Lee and Rose (Clark) Van Matre. He lived most of his life in Whatcom and Skagit County and graduated from Burlington High School in 1952. In October 1952, he married Dorothy (Heiner) Van Matre, and together they raised three children.

Cliff worked for and retired from Puget Power Energy. He and Dorothy enjoyed many years traveling in their RV through Arizona, California, and the Pacific Northwest. They also loved visiting Hawaii and Arizona, two of his favorite places.

He was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Skagit County. His family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by Hospice of Skagit County.

Cliff is survived by his son Doug (Margo) Van Matre; daughter-in-law Susan Van Matre; grandchildren Misty (Dustin) Saldiver, Nicci (Derek) Troupe, Lexie (Joey) Henderson, Stephanie (Ryan) Yarton, and Chelsea (Amir) Kovesh; 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister Lucille (Van Matre) Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Van Matre; daughter Alison Forsman; son Dale Van Matre; and sister Phyliss (Van Matre) Hagerty.
