IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cora
Steinhauer
December 17, 1958 – December 2, 2022
Cora Steinhauer passed away suddenly on December 2, 2022, in Mount Vernon, WA.
Cora was born on December 17 th , 1958, in Fresno, CA, and had moved to WA in 2002.
Many people know of both Cora and Curtis; however, many don't know their unique story of how they met. They had known each other as kids; however, things really took off when, in 1988, Cora had a property that was affected by a wildfire. During this incident, Curtis, who was a volunteer firefighter at the time, says she tried to take the hose from his truck and fight the fire that was affecting the home by herself. They were married two years later. After they moved to the area, Cora became extremely active within her community and church.
Cora was a key part of shaping and building Welcome Home Skagit, a cause that is very close to her heart. She was also part of Community Action in Skagit County.
Cora loved crafts, specifically sewing, her version of scrapbooking, and pour over painting.
Cora is preceded in death by her mother Loretta Lyon; stepfather Sonny McConnell; and brother Keith Hensley.
Cora is survived by her husband Curtis Steinhauer; sons Charles McConnell and John Clays; daughter Roxanne Adams; brothers Dan Standley and Mark Hensley; sister Mary Wardell; many grandchildren; and many friends who were like family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Mount Vernon Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4520 E College Way, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations please be made to Welcome Home Skagit.
