Coralie Alyce Munsell (Hobson)

1939-2026

Coralie Alyce Munsell (Hobson), aged 86, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026 in Marysville, Washington. Born in October 1939 in Shelton Washington, Coralie lived a life marked by resilience, determination, and a deep love for her family and pastimes. Coralie grew up in Skagit County and carried the lessons of strength and perseverance taught to her by her extended family throughout her life. There were a few challenging years after her parents, Flossie and Floyd Hammond divorced; she and her 2 sisters lived with their mother’s family. Their life changed when Flossie married Ralph Hobson in 1947.

Coralie grew up in Day Creek and graduated from Sedro Woolley High School class of 1957. She married Don Johnsen later that month. The couple had four children and as a family they enjoyed camping, skiing, and singing wherever they went. Early in their marriage, Coralie balanced part-time jobs with the responsibilities of being a wife and mother. Over time, she discovered her aptitude for office work and steadily advanced to become a hardworking and dedicated office manager. Her work ethic was a testament to her tenacity and ability to adapt to life's challenges. In 1973, following her divorce from Don Johnsen, Coralie demonstrated remarkable courage and independence. One of her proudest achievements was purchasing a home on her own, a milestone that was both exhilarating and daunting but showed her determination to provide for her family.

In 1982, Coralie married Steve Munsell, and the couple relocated to Maine. She enjoyed life in Maine but returned to Seattle after she separated from Munsell. Despite the challenges she faced in her personal life, Coralie remained steadfast in her commitment to building a fulfilling life for herself and those she loved. She was an avid sports fan who cheered enthusiastically for the Seattle Mariners, Seahawks, and WSU Cougars. She found delight in playing bingo, participating in the sporting contests featured in newspapers. Coralie Usually shared her home with one or two feline companions who brought comfort and companionship. Family was central to Coralie’s life.

She is survived by her sister Charlene "Jackie" Heberd; daughters: Gina MacDonald (Jeff) and Leslie Quintus (Paul); sons Terry Johnsen and Jeffrey Johnsen (Krista); niece: Leann Hobson; grandsons: Richard Quintus, Alex Quintus, Ryan Johnsen, and Nolan Johnsen; granddaughters: Rachel Johnsen, Katie Johnsen, Natalie Johnsen, and Jillian Johnsen. She was predeceased by her father Ralph Hobson, mother Flossie Maynard and sister Norma Moser.

Coralie’s legacy is one of resilience, hard work, and love for family. Her memory will live on through the lives she touched—her children who carry forward her strength, her grandchildren who embody the joy she found in family and all who knew her as a spirited woman with an indomitable will. A graveside memorial service will be held June 19, 2026, at 1pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, WA. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an animal shelter.
