Daniel Harry Gould, 82, passed away at home on December 24, 2020 in Mount Vernon, WA. Dan was born on June 24, 1938 in Urbana, Illinois to Herbert and Kathryn Gould.
Dan grew up in St. John, Washington. He graduated from St. John High School in 1956. After high school, he attended the University of Washington on an ROTC scholarship where he received a B.S. degree in mathematics.
Following his graduation in 1960, Dan then went into the Navy where he obtained the rank of Lieutenant. He was stationed at the U.S. Naval Station in Annapolis, Maryland, where he served as an instructor in mathematics at the U.S. Naval Academy until he left the Navy in 1967.
Dan married Ruth Ziegler in Frederick, Maryland in 1967. They subsequently divorced.
He then worked for the US post office then DSHS as a social worker until his retirement.
Dan was very active in the Mount Vernon community where he's resided for almost 50 years.
Dan was a life-long learner and a voracious reader. He enjoyed attending, listening to, and reading about the opera. Dan was a train enthusiast since he was a young man, and enjoyed many train trips throughout his life, as well as the model train layout that he'd built in his home.
Dan is survived by his step-mother, Mary Gould, Lacey, Washington; his son Dan Gould of Soap Lake, Washington, his daughter Anne Gould of Bellingham, Washington, and his brothers and sisters, Judy Henry, Clinton, Tennessee; Marcia Williams, Leland, North Carolina; Mort Gould, Chelan, Washington; Jay Gould, Kailua Kona, Hawaii; and Timothy Gould, Seattle, Washington; many other family members including his niece Julie Williams along with his two great nephews, Calvin Williams and Benjamin Williams of Lake Stevens, Washington; and his "Sweet Susan" whom he kept near and dear to his heart.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Herbert, and his mother, Kathryn.
