Obituary

David C. Boze David Boze of Mount Vernon died suddenly at his home on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007. He was 69 years old. David was born on Oct. 31, 1938 in Yakima, Washington, the fourth of eight children of Frederick and Doris Boze. He graduated first in his class at Tolt High School in Carnation, before joining the U.S. Navy and serving as a fire control technician aboard the USS Sutherland in the Pacific Ocean. Upon completing his service, he entered the University of Washington, graduating in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in English. His professional career included working as a computing engineer at the Boeing Company in Seattle and at NASA-Ames Research Center in Mountain View, Calif. Later, he established and operated the Sole Survivor shoe repair shop in downtown Mount Vernon for nearly 20 years. Most recently, he was employed as the night supervisor at Commercial Cold Storage in Mount Vernon. Locally, David will be remembered as an actor and director with several community theatrical groups, his favorite role being Norman Thayer in "On Golden Pond" at Skagit Community Art Theatre. He also was an avid black-powder shooter, an active member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, a search-and-rescue volunteer, and a volunteer mentor for adult literacy. David is survived by his wife of 15 years, Tami Boze; three brothers, Norman and his wife, JoAnne, of Kirkland, James and his wife, Barbara, of Stanwood, and Joseph and his wife, Judy, of SeaTac; two sons, Kevin and his wife, Grace Reamer, of Seattle, and Steven and his wife, Lynn, of Everett; two stepsons, Wally Chavez of Camano Island and Virgil Chavez of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho; two grandsons, Eric and Alec Boze of Everett, one step granddaughter, Katharine Carlson of Seattle; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frederick Jr., Michael and Wade; and a sister, Lynn Decker. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 1825 E. College Way, Mount Vernon, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Hawthorne Memorial Park.
