David Fredrick Willard

David Fredrick Willard, 76, of Burlington, WA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Born in Ogallala, NE, he grew up in Nebraska and Washington, excelling in wrestling at Moses Lake High School before serving in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam (1967–1971) and later in the Naval Reserves.
David dedicated 30 years to the Skagit County Sheriff's Office, holding roles as patrol deputy, detective, and polygraph examiner. A devoted family man, he married JoAnn Hill in 1973, and together they raised three children, welcomed seven grandchildren, and celebrated one great-grandchild.
David loved fishing, golfing, leatherwork, and time with family. He also volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, coached Little League, and was active in veterans' organizations.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Ruth. He is survived by his beloved wife JoAnn; his children Jennifer (Jarrod) with their children Cassidy and Brody and grandson Greyson, David (Kira) with their children Talon, Coen, and Landen, Daniel (Kristy) with their children Kasen and Bo. He also leaves behind his brother Terry, sister Merriann, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
An open house reception to celebrate David's life will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hawthorne Reception Room at Hawthorne Memorial Park, E College Way, Mount Vernon, with military and sheriff honors at 2:00 PM.
David's legacy of love and service will forever be cherished.
