Obituary

Delta Moore "Mimi" Griffiths Delta Griffiths passed away peacefully November 3, 2014 in Mount Vernon, at the age of 96. Delta was born to Walter L Moore and Edna Rowden Moore on May 28, 1918 near Yellville, Arkansas. She graduated from The University of Arkansas in 1940 and was the Vice-President of her senior class. After graduation she worked for the Farm Security Administration. In 1942 she joined the newly formed Women's Army Corp(WAC) graduating with the 2nd Officer Candidate School(OCS). She served 4 years as in the military as a 1st Lieutenant. In 1944 Delta met CWO Fred H Griffiths while the two were on assignment in Charleston, SC. They were married on June 12, 1945 and gave birth to their only daughter, Sue Carol Griffiths in 1946. The family followed Fred to many assignments in the USA, Japan and Norway throughout his military career. Delta made a comfortable home in each stop the family made. Delta worked as a librarian for many years in Junior and Senior High Schools, Colleges and public library systems. After Fred passed away in 1999 she moved to Mountain Glen Retirement Community in Mount Vernon to be near her daughter and family. Delta had many hobbies and interests. She loved learning the culture, foods and crafts wherever the family lived. She especially enjoyed learning about Japan and Norway where she learned about doll making, textiles and flower arrangement. She was a wonderful seamstress, cook and loved to read. She is survived by daughter; Sue Carol Brown and husband Hal, granddaughter; Robyn Brown, grandson; Jeff Brown and his wife Melissa, great grandchildren; Amanda, Brandon, Noah and Oliver Brown. Delta was preceded in death by her mother; Edna Rowden Moore, father; Walter L Moore, and husband; Fred H Griffiths. The family would like a special thanks to go to the caretakers and staff at Mountain Glen for their loving and attentive care of Delta over the past 7 years. They would also like to thank Hospice for caring for her during her final months. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
