Obituary

Dennis Lee Johnson, 72, following a long series of illnesses, passed peacefully from this earth to meet his Heavenly Father on Friday May 28, 2021, with his loving and devoted wife of 43.5 years, Diane, at his side.

He is preceded in death by his Mother Irene and two sisters Laura Lane and Linda Johnson. Survived by his wife Diane, sister Barbara Whiteside, brothers David Johnson and Jack Johnson. Sons Dan Johnson and Dennis Brumett; grandsons Dennis Brumett and wife Kylie, Dallas Brumett, grand-daughter Hailey Brumett and great-grandson Carson Brumett. He is also survived by his aunt and his nephews and nieces.

Born and raised in the Detroit, MI area Dennis graduated from Milford High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Army in May 1968. He became a Ranger and earned medals for meritorious service including the Silver and Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was honorably discharged in May 1971.

He met the love of his life, Diane, in the fall of 1977 and they married Dec 30 of the same year. In 1984 Dennis decided to pursue his college degree full-time graduating in 1986 from the University of Texas at Arlington with a double major in Systems Analysis and Computer Programming. He served as President of the Computer Club and earned the nickname "The Wizard" from his classmates for his computer skills.

In the 1990's Dennis and Diane discovered the joys of RV camping. In 2000 he retired from programming and Diane retired from teaching to embark on a life of full-time RVing around the country eventually happily settling in the Pacific Northwest. They have taken great pleasure in the adventures and tremendous people they met along their journey. Dennis loved the ability to simply pull over on a whim and have lunch while enjoying the view.

Dennis will be missed and remembered for his dedication and years of work for Operation Just Cause – an organization dedicated to a full and accurate accounting for POWs/MIAs/KIAs. He will also be remembered for his ever-present quick wit, his love of country and his love of family, especially Diane.
