Obituary

Dodie was born in Mount Vernon on October 5th, 1930 to Emil and Enice Wendland. She grew up in Mount Vernon and graduated from MVHS in the class of 1949. On April 14th, 1951 Dodie married Willard (Bill) Hanson at the Mount Vernon First Baptist Church. They made their home on the hill and raised four children. Dodie loved her church and was involved in various ministries in the church. For 20 years, after their family was grown, Dodie enjoyed selling real estate. She also spent many hours in her garden and swimming in their pool. Dodie and Bill were avid water lovers and took their boat out in the San Juan's to crab and fish. They enjoyed beach combing and island hopping while in their boat. Mostly though, Dodie loved to travel to Hawaii with Bill. For 30 years they would visit Maui or Kauai or the "big island" at least twice a year. Dodie was a gracious hostess and enjoyed hosting family barbeques, pool parties, and family birthdays. She loved preparing for holiday events which included family. Dodie is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Willard (Bill) Hanson; son Roger (Sunny) Hanson of Spokane; daughter Lori (Larry) Hansen of La Conner; daughter Cathy Hanson (La Conner); son Randy (Joy) Hanson of Bellingham. She has five grandchildren Dan Hanson, Audrey Ashworth, Ryan Hanson, Zach Hansen and Kate Hansen and one great grandson Noah Ashworth. She is also survived by a brother Steve (Pat) Wendland and a sister Linda (Mel) Lang and numerous nieces and nephews. Dodie was preceded in death by her mother and father Enice Jungquist Wendland and Emil Wendland, step mother Edith Abbott Wendland; brother Denton Wendland and sister-in-law Kay Wendland. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon on Saturday March 14th, 2015 at 1:00p.m. Memorial donations can be sent to the Special Olympics of Washington, 1809 Seventh Ave. Suite #1509 Seattle WA. 98101; or Hawaiian Island Land Trust www.hilt.org P.O.
