Obituary

Donald Edward Hundahl passed away on January 4th, 2025, after an extended illness. He left this world at home surrounded by his loving family. In bidding him farewell, we remember a true friend, wonderful father, husband, son, brother and grandfather. He was a beacon of light who leaves behind a legacy of warmth and love. Don walked through life with quiet strength, touching the lives of everyone he encountered. His absence leaves a void in our hearts. Don was born in Seattle, Washington on July 27th, 1947, to Victor and Dolores Hundahl. HE attended elementary school in Newhalem, Washington and high school in Concrete, Washington. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing sports including football where he excelled as the center for his team. He was well liked by fellow students and was involved in student government as well as many groups and clubs. At the age of 16, Don began working for Seattle City Light as a Laborer. He became interested in power generation and spent many years working his way up in the company, working at all 3 powerhouses before becoming Supervisor of Gorge Powerhouse. He retired from Seattle City Light in the early 90's after spending half a decade as the Supervisor for the Skagit Project for Seattle City Light. To those close to him, he was known as 'Dam Boss'. Donald loved his career and all of the people he worked so closely with. Many of his fondest memories were made during his years at Seattle City Light. He believed in hard work and doing any job to the best of his ability. He was proud of always building perfect wiring runs. Don married his high school sweetheart, Carol (Corky) Hundahl in 1965. There were married for 59 years and had three children, Scott Hundahl, Tony Hundahl and Liza Sherlock (Hundahl). Don and Corky were blessed with four granddaughters, Madeline and Samantha Hundahl and Marleigh and Elliot Sherlock. During their years of marriage Don and Corky owned 'Corky and Company' a successful grocery store in Marblemount, Washington, adding 'Corky's Gift Express' later on. After 26 years in Marblemount, the family moved to Birdsview, Washington, later moving to Mount Vernon, Washington. They opened their first recovery center called Phoenix Recovery Services, LLC. They also opened Phoenix House, a fourplex housing 14 men in recovery. Don and Corky provided substance abuse treatment services for 23 years. He will be greatly missed in the recovery community. Don had a passion for motorcycles and vintage trucks. Throughout his life a motorcycle was always parked close by. He rode to Sturgis and through Idaho and Montana with friends. He also loved to travel with his wife and family. He was an avid collector of large, ornate skull rings and fancy watches. He enjoyed rock and roll music, especially ZZ Top and Credence Clearwater Revival. Even requesting to listen to 'hillbilly rock and roll' in his final days. Remaining to cherish Don's memory are wife Carol 'Corky' Hundahl; sons Scott and Tony Hundahl; daughter Liza Sherlock (Hundahl); daughter in law Rita Hundahl; son in law Matthew Sherlock; granddaughters Madeline and Samantha Hundahl; and Marleigh and Elliot Sherlock; brother Rich Hundahl. We will forever remember you. All who knew you stand taller and stronger, knowing you now watch over us. Don truly leaves behind a legacy of love. One of his mottos was 'a job worth doing is worth doing right'. In the end, we can all agree that Don's life was a 'job well done'. A memorial/celebration of life for Donald will be held in late winter and the family will notify friends and family.
