Obituary

Donald James "Jim" Walker 6/21/27 - 9/28/15 After a brief illness, Jim has left this world behind to join his wife of sixty years, Margie; his parents, Sigrid (Olson) and James Walker; sisters Eileen Petroff and Betty Morgan and Daughter-in-law Karen Lynn Walker. He is survived and greatly missed by his children, Karen Walker of Camano Island, Jack Walker of Lopez Island, grandchildren Kaylin Walker of Seattle, Jake Walker of Burlington and great-granddaughter Violet of Burlington. Grandpa Jim/Uncle Jimmy/Jim is also survived and missed by a multitude of family and friends: Alice Olson, Amanda Hinman, Rick and Isabella Sherman, Peter Young, Riley Walker, the Mihajla, Morgan, Marchese, Farrell and Lesch families and many Mount Vernon and Bellingham friends. Born in Mount Vernon, he spent most of his life there, graduating from MVHS in 1945. He served in the Merchant Marine after high school. Before retirement he was co-owner of Dally's Auto Body in Mount Vernon. For the past 25 years he resided in Bellingham at the Village at Cordata, serving as member and president of its board. He was a member Jaycees, Lions and Elks clubs, Museum of Flight and Puget Sound Traditional Jazz Society. Jim loved Trad Jazz, woodworking, stamp collecting, old airplanes and cars, RVing, jokes, Christmas, family time and eating "swede" pancakes. Memorials to Vasa Lodge, Mount Vernon, Puget Sound Traditional Jazz Society or Make-a-Wish Foundation. Services at Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, October 24, 2015 at 1pm. Open House for Cordata residents Oct 25, noon to 3 at Jim's home.
