Donna Mae (Olson) Henry passed away peacefully at her home in Mount Vernon on Friday, May 30, 2008, with her loving family by her side. Donna was born December 5, 1929 in Valley City ND to Walter and Alma (Moe) Olson. She spent her school years in Valley City and then moved as a young woman to the Skagit Valley settling in Mount Vernon. It was there she met and married Dean Henry on October 13, 1953. They have celebrated 54 years of marriage together. Donna was employed by General Telephone as an operator for many years. She loved her career, but her main job was being a strong, loving mom to her three kids. Donna was the glue that held the family together. The family shared a love of camping and traveling. Many wonderful stories have been told of their camping days. They took trips to Minnesota to visit her sister Colleen and husband Kent and their family. Donna and Dean retired to Apache Junction, AZ in 1986 and enjoyed living the Snow Birds life. Their home was at the foot of the beautiful Superstition Mountain. Donna loved to explore the desert landscape. She had a roadrunner that visited her often on her patio. She made many wonderful friends during their winters in Arizona. She and Dean saw much of the state of Arizona and states in between while traveling back and forth to Washington. Donna was a Mariners fan and was able to attend a few Spring training games in Peoria. If there was a Mariners game on, then Donna was probably watching it. Donnas hobbies included knitting, traveling, Mariners and Bingo. She spent many times with Dean, Kent, and Brenda playing Bingo, always in it to win it, and she usually did. Donna had a very close relationship with her first cousins and their families. Most of these cousins migrated from North Dakota to Skagit County. They were more like brothers and sisters than cousins. Each year the family go together at the Moe family reunion. There was always lots of fun, games and terrific food. Donna loved those times. During the holiday season Donna got out the lefse pan and stick and cooked up the best lefse around. She passed the tradition down by teaching all of her grand daughters to make lefse. Donna had a dry sense of humor and always came up with witty reyorts to all of our situations. She was smart and brave and really lived by th adage "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Warren Olson; and her sister, Colleen Zimmerman. She is survived by her husband Dean Henry; sons, Ted Henry (wife Stephanie), Kent Henry (wife Brenda); daughter, Gail Henry; granddaughters, Amanda Henry, Keri Henry, Whitney Gomes (husband Dustin), Leslie Henry and Shauntee Henry (Benny Garcia and daughter Isella); great-granddaughters, Aleena Garcia and Jordyn Gomes; sister-in-la, Myrtle Olson; brother-in-law, Kent Zimmerman. Donna also leaves special nieces, nephew, cousins, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the many people who helped Donna in her battle with cancer. Thanks to Dr. Berliner and Dr. Raish and his staff. A special thanks to the nurses from Skagit Hospice and for the devotion of the Visiting Angels. Donnas family would suggest in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to Skagit Hospice, 18919 S. 13th St., Mount Vernon, WA 98274 in Donna's name. Memorial service will be held Thursday, June 5th, 2008 at 2:00pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home and Memorial Park 1825 E. College Way Mount Vernon, WA.
