Donna English Johnson, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, January 12 th , 2022, in Bellingham, WA. She was born on October 22 nd , 1939, in Clay Township, near Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, to Blanche (Dodds) and Raymond English. At 16, due to heath reasons, she moved to Tucson, Arizona where she completed high school. In 1961, she graduated from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing and began a lifelong career in Medicine, ending as Nursing Supervisor at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley. She never stopped learning about all types of medicine and natural healing techniques.
Donna's first husband Tolbert Maynard was a Seabee in the Navy. That allowed her to experience living in California; Alaska where she hunted, fished and enjoyed hiking; Australia where she was Swim Team coach for her children's team and ran the Seabee Food Truck; and, finally settling in the Puget Sound area in 1977.
In 1984, Donna met her 2 nd husband, Kenneth F. Johnson, whom she married shortly thereafter. She continued nursing for several years, then retired to partner with Ken at Johnson Dairy. She and Ken traveled throughout the United States, Australia, and Mexico.
Donna was very musical. She played guitar and piano, sang in various church choirs and the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed Ballroom Dancing and even tap dancing. She was also an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed pottery, knitting, gardening, watercolor painting.
Donna was a member of Soroptimist Sedro Woolley, Golfing and Bowling Teams and enjoyed traveling with her friends as far away as England.
She was a very special person who liked people and would do anything for anyone, including the talent to put a last-minute feast together for large groups of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by many close friends, her sister Nancy Wimer, her father, and her mother, whom she had taken care of right up to her passing at 101 years of age.
Donna is survived by her husband "Kenny", children Roxanna Shepard, William Maynard, and Barbara Middleton, Stepchildren Allan Johnson, Bonnie Parman, and Wendy Park; Sister Judy Wilkes and bother James English and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Donna was a beloved grandmother to Johnathan, Jennifer, Elise and Bryn, and was cherished by numerous Great Grandchildren, extended family and friends.
A private memorial for friends and family will be held at a future date this Spring. Donations may be made in Donna's name to Walnut Tree Thrift Store in Sedro Woolley, WA.
