IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna C
Thomsen
May 19, 1937 – April 19, 2025
Donna C. Thomsen passed away at home on Saturday, April 19, 2025, after a long, tough, battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was surrounded by her husband Gerald, kids and granddaughter, as she took her last breath.
She was born in Mount Vernon, on May 19, 1937, to John and Mildred Taft of Fir Island. The second out of eight children. She grew up on Fir Island, and went to Conway School, and Mount Vernon High School, graduating in 1955. She attended Skagit Valley College.
Donna and Gerald had history that went way back, as they were in first grade together at Conway School. He was a tough-looking little guy wearing a hoodie and bib overalls, and she was cute in a dress and pigtails. He never forgot her. He was working at the Ford Garage in Mount Vernon, and happened to look out the window. There she was, all grown up and beautiful. He asked her out, she accepted, and the rest is history.
They were married on August 9, 1957, at Hillcrest Park Lodge, and were together for almost 68 years. They had three girls together, Kim, Kerrie, and Kris. They had many adventures together that included traveling throughout the United States in their motorhome, and cruising on their motorcycle.
Donna was always creating something and was a very talented quilter and crocheter. As a perfectionist, she always found fault with her work, even when there wasn't any. She also loved to decoupage anything and everything. We joke she has probably gotten permission to decoupage the Pearly Gates. She was a wonderful cook, liked to read, listen to music, and go shopping. Unfortunately, with her progressively bad eyesight, she had to stop doing many of these things.
She is survived by her husband Gerald, who lovingly took care of her until the very end. Her daughters, Kim Robinson (Robby), Kerrie Schreiber, and Kris Desmarais (Robert). Grandchildren, Breanne Desmarais, Spencer (Lisa) Desmarais, and Evan & Justin Schreiber. Great Granddaughter's Isabelle, Brenleigh, and Sloane. Her sisters, Mary Sloan, Nancy Eliassen, and Ellen Taft. Plus many nieces and nephews, and her little dog Candie. She was predeceased by her brother John Taft, and sisters Marlene "Suzie" Brenneman, Sharon Robinson, Sylvia Heerspink, & her beloved dog Andy.
The family wants to thank Hospice, specifically Yvonne, Kathy, Becky, Melissa & Katie from the bottom of our hearts, for taking such good care of her. A private gravesite service is planned, with a celebration of life held at a later date.
See ya Knute, we love you.
