Dorothy B. McCartney, age 99, passed quietly on the morning of October 19, 2016 with her daughter by her side.

Born in Oak Park, IL on February 15, 1917 to parents Irving and Grace (Morey) Brown, she grew up in various places in Illinois and New Jersey before moving to Denver, CO in 1948. She worked as a secretary at Texaco while enjoying the natural beauty of Colorado in what would become a life-long love for the Centennial State. Dorothy met rancher J. E. "Mac" McCartney while vacationing at a dude ranch in the mountains of Northern Colorado. They married in 1954 and spent the next 19 years raising Hereford cattle and a daughter. After retiring from the ranch in 1973, Dorothy was a long-time resident of Fort Collins, CO, enjoying travel, birdwatching, and symphony concerts, as well as many volunteer activities. Brief sojourns took Dorothy to live in Bend, OR, Washington State, and back to Fort Collins, before she made her final move to Mount Vernon, WA in 2008 to be closer to family. Dorothy is survived by daughter Marcia (Tom) Royal. She was also "Mom #2" to Lisette and "Grandma Mac" to Christopher and Kyrie. Family and friends will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
