Dorothy Deloras Merritt, 94, of Mount Vernon, passed away in her sleep on Friday, July 13, 2018. She was born October 4, 1923, in Oldham, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Lucy Pirsch.
She married Bob Merritt in 1946, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They moved to Mount Vernon in 1948, where, after raising her six children, Dorothy worked at the Skagit Valley Laboratories for many years.
Dorothy was a woman of great faith. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she was very active and part of the altar society for many years. She was also a member of the Children's Orthopedic Guild.
Dorothy enjoyed sewing and knitting, and was still able to do a fantastic job embroidering. She took great pleasure in completing puzzles and playing games, especially when she won. She adored spending time with family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a very large extended family including many nieces and nephews for which she was an honorary mother.
She is survived by 2 sons, Terry Merritt and his wife Judy of Arlington and Mike Merritt and his wife Jeri of Spokane; 2 daughters, Mary Davis and her husband Tim of Pasco and Patti Richter and her husband Mike of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Jim, September and her husband Mike, Robert, Joshua, Darrell and his wife Amy, Mathew and his fiance Bethany, Amanda and her husband Craig, Katie and her husband Kevin, Jenny and her husband Jordan, and Jackie and her fiance Brian; great-grandchildren, Jaidev, Jahldi, Dustyn, Ryan, Madison, Morgan, Tyler, MacKenzie, Kaidyn, Andrew, Mia, Rachel, Izabella, Charlotte, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucy; sisters, Darlene, Yvonne, Veronica, Madonna, and Mary; brother, Jim; husband, Robert; sons, Steve and Thomas; daughter-in-law, Brenda; and great-grandchild, Samantha.
Her family requests memorials to the Immaculate Conception Catholic School or St. Joseph Center in Mount Vernon, or Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lake Stevens
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 12:15pm at Immaculate Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, WA with a rosary before the mass beginning at 11:30am.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 1:15pm at Hawthorne Memorial Park, Mount Vernon, WA. A reception will follow the graveside service at the St. Joseph Center. 215 N 15th St Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
