Dorothy May Van Matre, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2022, at Creekside Memory Care, Burlington, WA.

Dorothy was born September 19, 1934, to parents Edward and Genevieve (Heiner) Davis in Grand Junction, Colorado. Dorothy lived most of her life in Whatcom and Skagit County. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1952. She married Clifford Van Matre October 1952. They raised three children.

Dorothy enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, sewing, and making yard hangers. Dorothy's passion was collecting Garfield, the cat, she has a large collection. She and Cliff would travel to Hawaii and Arizona for many years, which were two of her favorite places to visit.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Allison Forsman, son, Dale Van Matre, sister, Lucille Smith, brother, Dan Davis.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Clifford Van Matre, Son, Doug (Margo) Van Matre, Susan Van Matre (Dale Van Matre's wife) and Grandchildren, Misty (Dustin) Saldiver, Nicci (Derek) Troupe, Lexie (Joey) Henderson, Stephanie (Ryan) Yarton, Chelsea (Amir) Kovesh. Dorothy had numerous great Grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Allison Forsman, son, Dale Van Matre, sister, Lucille Smith, brother, Dan Davis.

We are incredibly grateful for the care provided to her by Hospice of Skagit County.

A Graveside service will be held at Burlington Cemetery on August 9, 2022, at 1:00 PM.
