Dottie Moe
After a lingering illness, Dottie passed away to join her family. She was born April 22, 1929 in a farmhouse near Valley City, N. Dak.; She passed away August 16, 2024 at her home in Burlington. She moved to Skagit Valley at the age of 5, attended local schools until 5th grade, moved with her Dad to Seattle and graduated from West Seattle High School. She met her husband-to-be, Dick, while visiting her Mother in N. Dak. Dick was home on leave from the Navy. He attended Dottie's High School graduation, and they were inseparable and soon after married (61 years until his passing in 2011). They had a son, Terron, and daughter, Sandra. Love of family always 1st. Photos of family, friends, cards & school drawings covered her walls. She lived on memories. Loved BALL (Mariners Greatest Fan). Started playing fastpitch in the 50's, advancing to Texas for Nationals. After children were born & grown, started back into Slo-Pitch and played for 33 years, and coached for many more years. Stilled involved as "flunky" and a Charter Member of Skagit Valley Softball Board. Helped organize the "Jack N Jill" (Coed) Softball LEAGUE with Don Wick. How she loved the game. She also bowled for 50 years (Life Member), and traveled with her bowling partner, Mary Mae Barker, to many tournaments. Loved to dance; Dick and Dottie would dance until the band stopped. A member of the "Skagit Toe Tappers" for 25 years, enjoying all the shows. Loved to play Bridge, belonging to the same clubs for 40+ years. Enjoyed her "friendly Foursome" every week. Played the accordion, for Hugo Helmer Band, and the last years, only for her enjoyment. Followed her three granddaughters activities, with much love. Four great grandsons were the joy and loves of her life, cherishing each moment she had with them. A volunteer for the "Special Olympics" which brought her much happiness. On Humane Society Board – a great lover of animals. Always so thankful for many friends who supported her, especially through loss of family. Couldn't have survived without them. Worked from age of 16, the last 40+ years as bookkeeper for Tom Studebaker. Enjoyed motorhoming with family and friends. Entertaining at the lake cabin with their many friends was a highlight. A member of Burlington Lutheran Church since 1960, where she has served as Treasurer. Survived by: three granddaughters, Chelsey (Mike) Olsen, Nicole Nelson, and Kylene Nelson; four great grandsons, Andrew and Harvey Olsen, Elija and Theodore Holland; one niece, Jody Hymas; four nephews; and many "wonderful friends". Many thanks to Dr. Bruce Mathey who gave her those extra years, her wonderful caregivers, and neighbor Annie Erickson.
