Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather Doug was born in Burlington on November 13 th , 1940, to Jake and Mary Ploeg and passed on peacefully March 5, 2022, with loved ones by his side.
Doug graduated Burlington-Edison in 1959 and married his high school Sweetheart Lynn Tjeerdsma on January 14 th , 1961.
Doug went on to work for Hansen & Petersen Feed, until starting a new construction company T & P with brother-in-law Gus Tjeerdsma.
Doug and Lynn raised their family on Samish Island where many wonderful memories were made.
Doug enjoyed beach time with family and friends, opening their home and beach to many over the years. Doug was an avid sportsman, enjoying Elk Camp, hunting, fishing, crabbing, shrimping, and snowmobiling He was an active member in the Northwest Glacier Cruisers, Edison Sportsman Club, longtime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Mule Deer Foundation, Burlington Eagles, a volunteer fireman for Samish Island Fire Department, and member of the Whatcom, Skagit, Island County Contractors Association, he also had been an active member back the day of the Skagit Roping Club.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Jake and Mary, brother Thomas, son Patrick and daughter-in-Law Kari, and is survived loving wife Lynn Tjeerdsma Ploeg of 61 years, son Rodney (Kim) Ploeg, daughter Teresa (David) Giddens, sisters Louisa (Bob) Lee and Rose Mary Ploeg, also 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family.
Doug was a quiet gentle giant with a huge heart, often times offering a helping hand to anyone who asked. Doug will be greatly missed by family, friends, and community. Please join us with celebrating his life on July 30 th , 2022, at the family's beach on Samish Island at 1pm till done.
