Edward J. "Ed" Poor
Ed was born June 5, 1915 in Cut Bank, Montana to George and Clara Poor; he passed away at his home in Punkin Center February 28, 2016. At age 3, Ed's family moved to Pasadena , CA . At age 10, Ed's family moved to Washington state, Silverdale area. At age 14, Ed moved to the Skagit Valley where he continued logging. In 1935 Ed married Helen Duvall in Sedro Woolley where they had two children: Nancy and Jim. Ed worked in the logging profession in Oregon until 1962. He and Helen moved to Healy , Alaska where he worked at the Usibelli Coal mine eventually becoming Superintendant, until his retirement in 1980. Ed and Helen retired in Punkin Center . Ed was an avid outdoorsman, pheasant hunter, trap shooter, and horseman. There wasn't anyone that didn't like Ed-young or old. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; his wife Helen in 1996, and wife Marti in 2007. He is survived by his children: Nancy (Pat) Cross, Jim and Mary Poor; 2 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and many dear friends. Ed was very proud of living 100 years. Ed did not want a service after his death; his 100 th birthday party this past June was his farewell service. Over 200 local and out of state friends attended.
Ed will be placed with Helen in the columbarium at Hawthorne Memorial Park
