Esther Guthrie went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2023 at the age of84. She was lovingly known to her family and friends as Sandi. She was born in 1939 as the oldest daughter of Hartley and Luella (Libby) Edwards in Illinois. Her family moved to Washington State in 1948, then settled in Burlington, Washington in 1949. Sandi graduated from Burlington Edison High School in 1957. She was a past matron of Burlington OES. Sandi enjoyed and excelled in both knitting and quilting. She knitted countless hats for the homeless, made "knitted knockers" for mastectomy patients, and made lap quilts for oncology patients. Sandi married her beloved husband, Noel Guthrie, in 1981. Noel and Sandi were active in various churches, delivered Meals on Wheels, and square danced for many years.

Sandi leaves behind her beloved son, Ed Smith, her loved step daughters, Karen and Katrina Guthrie, her three sisters, Judy Hruby, Kathleen Shawver, and Debby Esary, along with various nieces and nephews. Sandi is preceded in death by her husband, Noel Guthrie, her parents, Hartley and Luella Edwards, a niece, and a grand nephew. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Whatcom Hospice House at whatcomhospice.org. A celebration of life will be at His Place Community Church in Burlington, Washington, on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 1 PM.
