IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Estus Kenneth
Powell
January 5, 1939 – March 7, 2026
Estus Kenneth "Ken" Powell
January 5th, 1939 - March 7th, 2026
Ken Powell left us and was embraced by the arms of the Lord.
Ken was born in Collins, GA to the late Estus Matthew Powell and Clyde Slater Powell. After graduating from Collins High School in 1957, he joined the United States Air Force, spending most of his term of enlistment stationed in Thule, Greenland. After completing his service, he returned home and attended Brewton Parker College. He later met Constance "Connie" Wilson, and the two married in 1972. Shortly after the birth of their son Michael in 1974, the family relocated from Georgia to Aloha, OR, where they welcomed their daughter Kathryn in 1980. Eight years later they relocated for the final time to Mount Vernon, WA. Ken remained married to Connie for 49 years, until her passing in 2021.
Ken loved automobiles, whether working on them as a hobby, a profession, or following motorsports, especially NASCAR. He was also an active outdoorsman, hunting and fishing at various points throughout his life. An enduring friendship formed with another family shortly after moving to Mount Vernon introduced Ken to fishing for salmon and steelhead. This became an avid pursuit for the remainder of his fishing days.
Regardless of where he lived, Ken had a strong faith in God and was always active in his local church. Ken and Connie were longtime members of Trinity Baptist Church in Burlington, WA, where both were well known. He took particular joy in singing in church, whether as a music director, part of a choir, or simply in the congregation.
Led by his faith in God, Ken worked hard to provide for his family while helping those around him and enjoying their company.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife Connie, daughter Kathryn, sister LaVerne, great niece Ashby Symms and great nephew Dalton Stanford.
He is survived by his son Michael (Colleen), grandson Chaz, brother Lamar (Martha), nieces Lisa Stanford (Shawn) and Tracy Yahn (Robert), along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place at Hawthorne Memorial Park on March 23, 2026, at 2 pm with Military honors.
