Obituary

Eugene Allan Pearce died Thursday, October 15, 2009 peacefully in his sleep at Creekside Retirement Community in Burlington. He was born August 29, 1919 in Seattle, Washington to Herbert G. and Ina Dell Pearce. Gene graduated from Bothell High School in 1938. He attended the University of Washington for 1 year and studied aeronautical engineering which led him to Boeing. He worked on the B-17's for 2 years. In 1942 he married Farrell J. Hatch and had three daughters, Pam, Diane and Joan. Gene and his family lived in North Seattle for 25 years. Gene started his Real Estate career with Graham Investment in Greenlake and later had his own office in Lake City and Bothell. He and three golfing buddies formed a partnership called Skyco Development and were the 1st to develop and sell recreational lots in Washington State. They later purchased a 9 hole golf course that they eventually sold to the members and is now Skagit Golf & Country Club. Gene was always very proud to be a part of Skagit Golf & C.C. and enjoyed many friends and many rounds of golf. In the late 60's Gene moved to Burlington and opened his own office, Gene Pearce & Associates. He served as Skagit County Assoc. of Realtors President in 1971. On July 2, 1973 Gene married June P. Etter who also had a Real Estate office in Burlington. He and June joined offices re-naming the office to M&E Realty and worked until their retirement in 1982. He was an avid golfer, founding member of Skagit Golf & C.C., member of Skagit County Realtors Association, the Eagles, Elks and Rotary Club. Gene loved his real estate career, golfing, fishing, hunting, dancing, playing cards with June, family and friends. Gene and June traveled a lot during their retirement and wintered in Arizona for many years. Gene loved life, loved June, loved his family, grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many friends. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his sister Sally & (Frank) Sloan of Eagle Pt., Oregon. Daughters Diane & (Mike) Burkey, Joan & (Roger) Hicks. Grandchildren Jason Strand, Jenna Strand, Josh Hicks and Leah Bergen. Step-children Jim & (Lynette) Etter, (Fritz) & Shelah Inman, grandchildren Brandon Etter, Angie Etter, Melissa & (Ryan) Harris, Michael Inman, great grandchildren Alex Morales and Kora Harris. Preceding Gene in death were his mother Ina and father Herbert, daughter Pamela Pearce Nash and grandson Shawn Bergen. Services to celebrate his life will be November 9th, 2009, 4:00 o'clock at Skagit Golf & Country Club. Reception following. In lieu of flowers memorials maybe made in Gene's name to Skagit Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1376, Mount Vernon, WA. 98273 or your favorite charity.
