Obituary

Eva Foster, 102, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2017 at Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon where she was a resident since 2010. She was born on September 9, 1914 in Albertville, AL. Eva was a real southern lady and "Steel Magnolia."   Throughout her life she survived many hardships including the depression and the loss of her mother at a young age.  After their mother passed the boys joined the armed forces (Air Force & Marines). Eva tried very hard to be a second Mom to her brothers and sisters. They spent many hours at her home and were a very close family. Eva was married to her husband (Al Foster) for over 62 years. He called her his "Empress Queen Eva" until he passed in 2011.  Eva was also preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. She was the last one to go, and now they are all together again. She had an unshakable faith in her Heavenly Father.

She is survived by her five children Joyce Mabey of Mt Vernon, Jim Foster of Lahaina, Hawaii, Gene Foster of Wallowa, Oregon, Kathy Foster Kahn of Mt Vernon, and Al Foster Jr. of Redmond. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Eva was and will always be respected and loved unconditionally by her family. Her oldest son (Jim Foster) called her an "Angel of Love!"  She was a devoted and loving wife and mother.

Eva was passionate about many things in her life and loved children and caring for them. She enjoyed gardening and especially taking care of her roses. She was an accomplished seamstress, a wonderful homemaker, and an excellent cook that was known to create fabulous southern meals. She also enjoyed watching musicals and game shows on TV, and classic films.

Eva and her husband (Al) moved to Mt Vernon around 1992 and joined the First Methodist Church few years later. They were long-time members, and served in several ministries at the church.

She volunteered in the 90's at the Senior Center in Mt Vernon, where she worked as a receptionist. Eva also helped her husband deliver "Meals on Wheels" to the elderly.

Eva and Al were long-time members of the Elks Club. They enjoyed socializing with friends there.

Eva worked along side her husband in many property management positions in the Seattle area before moving to Mt Vernon. Al (husband) managed several multi-unit and high rise apartment buildings in Seattle, and she worked as an assistant manager with various duties.

She also worked as a Sales Associate in one of the largest department stores in downtown Houston in late 40's. It was the "Nordstrom" of it's time. It was a very elegant department store with perfume fountains, floor walkers and little bells that went off when the elevators came to the main floor.

A Celebration of Life will be held at United Methodist Church on Monday April 3, 2017 at 12:30pm. 1607 East Division St. Mount Vernon. All who knew her are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her honor to United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, WA.
