Eva Josephine Smith passed away on June 1, 2009 in Mount Vernon, Washington, at the age of 81. She was born to Dorothy & Owen Hillard on March 10, 1928 in Astoria Oregon, and was the oldest of seven children. She is survived by her husband, Jack, of Mt. Vernon, three daughters and their spouses, Linda Brown (Don) of Eugene, Oregon, Nancy Tutlis (John) of Camano Island, Washington and Cathy Bahrt (Ed) of Camano Island, Washington, ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three brothers, Robert, Donald, & Jerry, and one sister, Joan. Eva was predeceased by sisters Jean and Judy. She was married to George Leonard Carlson in Astoria, Oregon on September 13, 1947. Eva worked as an IBM operator for Pacific Bell Telephone in San Francisco. George passed away in 1955, and in 1958 Eva and her three daughters traveled to Ketchikan, Alaska, where she was employed by Ketchikan Pulp Company. Eva was a widowed mother of three when she met Jack in 1960. After expressing her opinion of the weather, and hinting at moving back to the lower 48, she & Jack married in 1962. In 1967, Eva & her family moved to Bellevue, WA. After 3 years in Washington, Eva & Jack went to Sitka, Alaska in 1970. Eva worked as a corporate secretary for National Bank of Alaska until her retirement in 1993. For health reasons she & Jack returned to Washington in 2005. Eva resided at Mountain Glen Retirement Center in Mount Vernon. A memorial service will be officiated by Eva's grandson, Reverend Andy Odle of Atlanta, Georgia, and is scheduled for Monday, June 8 at 1:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 415 S. 18th St. in Mt.
