Obituary

Fred A Fox, age 99, passed to his heavenly home on Thursday, June 28, 2018 in Anacortes, Washington.  Born on May 25, 1919 in Pittsburg, Kansas, Fred was the second of four children to Fred A Fox Senior and Mabel Emerson Fox.

Fred grew up in Earlton, Kansas, graduated from Chanute High School, attended Chanute Junior College and graduated from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) with a degree in mechanical engineering.  He worked as a training specialist for both Stearman Aircraft in Wichita and Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, where he met the love of his life, D. Marjean (Martin) Fox.

Fred served in the Army during World War II, completing basic training in Mineral Wells, TX and Officers Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia.  He also served in an engineering maintenance company in Guam during the Korean Conflict.

Fred went to work for Texaco in Tulsa in the summer of 1948.  He transferred to the refinery in Casper, WY in 1975 and to Anacortes, WA in 1978.  He retired from Texaco as Chief Power Engineer in May of 1982, after 35 years with the company.

Fred and Marjean married in Tulsa on January 30, 1944.  They enjoyed 71 years of marriage until her passing in August 2015, and are survived by 3 children: Fred A "Rick" Fox, Jr (and wife Rosemary) of Centennial, CO; Jim Fox (and wife Becky) of Anacortes, WA; and Diane Marjean Fox Bobko (and husband John) of Burlington, WA. Fred and Marjean have 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Fred was always involved in those activities his kids enjoyed, serving as head scout master for the Boy Scouts while his boys were in Scouting, and serving as president of the band parents club while all the kids were in band.  He was very involved in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and served in many offices for their Mid-Continent Section.  Following retirement Fred & Marjean enjoyed camping in their motorhome including vacations with their kids, and camping with friends from church.

While in Tulsa, Fred & Marjean were highly involved in First United Methodist Church and raised their children there.  In Skagit County, their church home for over 30 years was Avon United Methodist Church where Marjean played piano and Fred served in church leadership, as an usher, and wherever his services were needed.
