Obituary

Gail Arthur Logsdon, 78, of Big Lake was welcomed home to be with his Heavenly Father on January 5, 2025.

Born on June 17, 1946, in Mount Vernon, WA to Gail Wendell "Tony" Logsdon and Dorothy May (Carpenter) Logsdon, Gail was swiftly welcomed home by his three older sisters, solidifying their strong lifelong bond. He spent his childhood roaming the local beaches in search of the elusive agate, hiking in nearby (and distant) mountains on rock-hounding adventures and sharpening his practical joking skills to put to use on his big sisters. Gail's sense of humor would grow to be one of his strongest traits, rarely leaving a room without making someone laugh.

Gail attended Mount Vernon High School, graduating in 1964, then proceeded on to Skagit Valley College where he received an Associates of Arts Degree. Upon completing his studies, Gail was quickly hired on to work for Dick Judy starting out a career in Engineering that lasted four decades, spending the majority of this time working for Skagit County Public Works as a Survey Engineer, beginning in April of 1969 and ending in his retirement in May of 2009.

Gail met his future wife, Diane (Brandstrom) Logsdon at a very early age — pushing her off the merry-go-round in elementary school, causing her to chip her front tooth — the running joke being they had to get married to pay for her dental work. Gail and Diane celebrated their nuptials on October 11, 1968, at Hillcrest Park in Mount Vernon. Five years after their wedding, Gail and Diane welcomed a son Todd in March of 1973. Shortly after, in January of 1976, their daughter Holly rounded out their family.

Gail had a strong faith in God. His family is comforted knowing he was welcomed into heaven with open arms by those who have passed before him. Although saying goodbye to their beloved Gail is unbelievably painful, they will forever be thankful for the years they had together. His apple-cheeked smile and jovial laughter will be deeply missed!

Gail is survived by his beautiful wife Diane of Big Lake; his son Todd (Alicia) Logsdon of Sedro Woolley; his daughter, Holly Rinne of Sedro Woolley; four sisters: Glenda Inman of Seattle, Sandy Bunk of Mesa, Arizona; Jackie Smith of La Conner; and Deanna Benson of Sedro Woolley; one honorary brother, Larry Zimmerman of Burlington; seven grandchildren: Synaca Witherington (Melanie) of Seattle; Kalani (Lily) Witherington of Kansas City; Isabella Rinne of Bellingham; Oliver Rinne of Surrey, BC; Luukas Rinne of Sedro Woolley; Liam Logsdon of Sedro Woolley;  Declan Logsdon of Sedro Woolley and one great-granddaughter, Ellie Witherington of Kansas City. Gail was also an adored uncle to several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Tony Logsdon and Dorothy Bell, and his loving stepfather, Robert "Bobby" Bell; mother-in-law, Patricia Cassell; father-in-law, Walter "Buck" Cassell; father-in-law, Dennis Brandstrom; brother-in-law, Raymond Bunk; and sister-in-law, Gail Marie Austin.

A Celebration of Life to honor Gail will be to follow.
