George Lavoy Jr, a longtime Mt Vernon resident, passed away on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009. He was born March 31st, 1930 in Chamberlain, South Dakota, the son of George and Dorothea LaVoy. George lived in Elkhart, Indiana for many years and he and his family moved to Seattle, Washington in 1944. He graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1948. Shortly after graduating from High School he started his own company, Lavoy Construction, in Edmonds,WA. He made Mt Vernon his home in 1975. George loved his work but also found time for many of his passions which included camping, fishing, crabbing, dancing, skiing, trips to Vegas and Alaska and spending many hours with his loved ones. He lived to have fun, greeted everyone with a smile and to those who knew him, was larger than life. He is survived by his daughter Susan Donaldson and her husband Bob Donaldson, son Glen LaVoy, daughter Deb LaVoy and husband Sion Jones, and son Gary LaVoy. Eight grandchildren, Joni Hoffman and husband Chris Hoffman, Ryan Donaldson, Jason Donaldson and Carrie Donaldson, Chris LaVoy, Geoffrey LaVoy, Sarah Lavoy, and Chandler LaVoy. Four great-grandchildren, Cameron Hoffman, Mason Hoffman, Dyllan Hoffman and Caitland Hoffman. Beloved longtime companion Gail Savre and daughter Margo and her husband Keith Collins and children Sean, Anthony, Isaiah and Omarion, and, son John and wife Kim Tiedman and children Keara, Cami, Joshua. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Bennett. Viewing will be held Sunday September 27, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at Hawthorne Funeral Home 1825 E College Way, Mount Vernon followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. A Graveside Service will follow the Funeral at Hawthorne Memorial Park and a Reception in the Hawthorne Reception Room.
