Obituary

George William McKay, a resident of Skagit County since 1946, passed away on February 17, 2014. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anna Beth on December 31, 2013. They were married January 22, 1944 and spent their 70 years together devoted to each other and their family. Also preceded in death by his parents, RJ and Lillian McKay; brother, Robert McKay; sisters, June Huges and Elsie Waters. He is survived by their three children Judy Sauer, husband Joe from Big Lake, WA; Ed McKay, wife Marsha from Joyce, WA; and Rick McKay, wife Eiren from Clear Lake, WA; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-children. George took pride in his work as a pipefitter, retiring in 1986. He was an avid horseshow pitcher and enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends at Skagit Valley Horseshoe Club. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and trap shooting. George volunteered as a Ham Radio operator, and volunteered with the Skagit County Emergency Management since 1997. If anyone needed help, he was always ready to volunteer. There will be a viewing Saturday, February 22, 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at Hawthorne Memorial Park. The graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. with a reception following at Hawthorne Memorial Park 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials may be made to the Skagit Valley Horseshoe Club, 17040 Brunswick Street, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. The family would like to thank the staff of Birch View Memory Care Center of Sedro-Woolley, for their loving care.
